The Extension Division of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Forests (MAFF) recently conducted a Plant Health Clinic Training to strengthen the capacity of agricultural extension officers across Tonga.

The training aimed to enhance participants’ knowledge and practical skills in identifying plant pests and diseases, diagnosing field problems, and providing effective advisory services to farmers.

During the program, participants learned how to set up and operate plant health clinics in their respective districts, ensuring that farmers receive timely, science-based recommendations to improve crop health and productivity.

One of the participants, Mr. Tulau, a local farmer, shared his experience and appreciation for the initiative, saying that the training helped him better understand how to detect early signs of crop issues and prevent major losses.

The Plant Health Clinic initiative is part of MAFF’s ongoing effort to promote sustainable crop management, strengthen farmer support systems, and improve national food security.

MAFF acknowledges the dedication of its Extension staff and partners who continue to work tirelessly in supporting Tonga’s agricultural communities.
