🌾 MAFF Launches New Climate-Smart Agriculture Program

The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Forests (MAFF) has officially launched a new Climate-Smart Agriculture (CSA) Program aimed at strengthening Tonga’s agricultural resilience to climate change while improving productivity and food security across the Kingdom.

Speaking at the launch ceremony held at the MAFF Headquarters in Nukuʻalofa, the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forests emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring that Tonga’s farming systems adapt to the impacts of changing weather patterns and remain sustainable for future generations.

“This initiative supports our national vision to build a climate-resilient agriculture sector that safeguards the livelihood of our farmers and communities,” the Minister said.

Program Objectives

The new program focuses on:

  • 🌱 Promoting sustainable and adaptive farming techniques

  • 💧 Improving water management and soil fertility

  • 🚜 Encouraging use of renewable energy and smart technology in agriculture

  • 🌾 Supporting farmer training and access to climate-resilient crop varieties

  • 📊 Strengthening research and data collection for evidence-based policy development
