Quarantine & Biosecurity Division

The Quarantine and Biosecurity Division under the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Forests is responsible for protecting Tonga’s environment, agriculture, and public health from pests, diseases, and invasive species. It operates through two key branches: Quarantine and Biosecurity.

Quarantine Division

The Quarantine Unit ensures the safe movement of plants, animals, and goods into and out of Tonga by enforcing strict inspection and treatment procedures at all ports of entry. This helps prevent the introduction of harmful pests and diseases.

  • Conduct border inspections at airports and seaports.
  • Issue and verify import/export permits and phytosanitary certificates.
  • Supervise fumigation, disinfection, and quarantine treatments.
  • Manage quarantine holding facilities for plants and animals.

Permit & Certification

Manage all import and export documentation.

Treatment Unit

Ensure compliance through fumigation and pest control.
