Our Services

Forestry Division

The Forestry Division provides effective and sustainable management of biodiversity and forest-based climate resilient environments through local production of cash crops for export. The division also supports capacity building for staff, exporters and farmers.

Staffing: Technical Officer Grade II, one Senior Technician, two non-established staff.

Key activities: Grafting, layering, nursery management and crop trials.

  • 900 coconut seedlings raised at Vaipoa Nursery
  • New turmeric block planted at Vaipoa
  • Air layering and grafting of citrus crops
  • Performance of grafting of orange with moli Tonga root stocks

Farm Operations – Sikula Farm

Sikula Farm is a two-acre mixed cropping farm producing American taro, swamp taro, sweet potatoes, cassava, bananas and plantains. The farm contributes to branch revenue generation.

Staffing: One Senior Agriculture Assistant with three non-established staff.

Quarantine & Quality Management Division (QQMD)

The QQMD ensures effective border control, trade facilitation and provides quarantine advice to protect Tonga’s agriculture and environment.

Staffing: Technical Officer Grade II with support from the Head of Administration and Finance.

Livestock Division (LVD)

The Livestock Division supports sustainable livestock production and provides veterinary services to enhance food security and reduce imports through local production.

Staffing: Technical Officer Grade II supported by one non-established staff.

Food Division (FOD)

The Food Division is responsible for food safety control, agro-processing support and trade facilitation. It implements the Food Act 2014 and conducts inspections of imported foods and food businesses.

The Extension and Women Division provides extension advisory services, supports sustainable food security and disseminates agricultural information to communities.

Machinery Pool

The Machinery Pool manages and operates all branch machinery, administered by a technician with support from one non-established staff.

Stakeholder Engagement

The branch partners with organisations such as Live & Learn Tonga to promote resilience, food security and sustainable land and environmental management.

Capacity Building

The branch supports continuous capacity building for staff, farmers and stakeholders to strengthen agricultural productivity and resilience.
